Description

The Merrithew SPX Max Reformer Bundle with Tall Box is a commercial-grade STOTT PILATES reformer built for studio owners, instructors, and serious home users who want full professional functionality in a lightweight, stackable, space-saving frame.

Its carriage glides over sleek C-channel aluminum rails on a patented rolling mechanism for a smooth, friction-free ride, while the patented Retractable Rope System, 3-position gearbar, 4-position footbar, and high-precision spring package make it easy to adapt for different users, exercises, and training goals, including group classes, private instruction, rehabilitation work, and home practice.

This bundle adds the accessories most studios buy first: an Extra Tall Reformer Box (with footstrap), a Padded Platform Extender, and a Maple Roll-Up Pole. The Tall Box adds 4 in (10 cm) of height over the standard box, giving you the floor clearance to perform the complete Reformer repertoire, from lying prone for arms pulling straps to four-point kneeling for feet pulling straps.

The SPX Max is also a CE Marked Class I Medical Device in conformity with the European Medical Device Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR), so it can be formally used in hospitals and healthcare settings by medical professionals.

The SPX Max supports standard reformer exercises, jumpboard and Cardio-Tramp® Rebounder work, box work, and, when upgraded with the SPX Max Plus™ Vertical Frame and Mat Converter, Cadillac and matwork functionality.

Who is it built for and when it makes sense

• Studio owners and instructors who need commercial equipment that holds up to continuous, high-intensity, multi-user sessions but can’t dedicate a permanent room to every machine. The SPX Max is lightweight, stacks for storage, and rolls on easy-roll wheels at both ends, so you can generate group-class revenue without eating up floor space.
• Intermediate to advanced home users who want real studio functionality at home. The high-precision spring package, retractable rope system, and multi-position gearbar and footbar give you the range and adjustability that basic home reformers don’t.
• Rehab and clinical settings. As a CE-marked Class I medical device, the SPX Max can be used by professionals in healthcare and rehabilitation environments.
• Buyers who want the accessories included. The Tall Box, Padded Platform Extender, and Maple Roll-Up Pole are bundled here for less than buying them separately, a value of over $700.

When it’s not the right fit

• If you have very limited ceiling height. Standing exercises on the platform need roughly 97.5 in (2.48 m) of clearance for a 5’8" user, and storing the reformer upright needs about 100.5 in (2.55 m). Taller users need more.
• If you’re brand new to Pilates and haven’t taken any classes yet, because getting the most out of a full-featured reformer requires knowing how to use it.
• If you specifically want a wood-framed reformer. The SPX Max is not wood-framed; it runs on C-channel aluminum rails. If you prefer the look and feel of wood, see our wood reformer options.
• If you’re very tall or have a long torso. The standard carriage may feel restrictive at full extension. A Reformer Extension Upgrade adds 6 in (15 cm) of length (available separately).

Materials

C-channel aluminum rails, durable vinyl upholstery over dense EVA foam, and a 1 in (25 mm) thick wooden standing platform. The included Roll-Up Pole is maple.

Resistance system

High Precision Springs Package, 5 reformer springs: 3 at 100% tension, 1 at 50%, and 1 at 25%, with 5 neoprene spring covers for noise reduction. The enhanced springs are built to withstand vigorous use with Jumpboards, Cardio-Tramp® Rebounders, and other Reformer accessories, and secure quickly and safely.

Upholstery colors

Space requirements

The reformer itself measures 99.5 in x 26 in (252.7 cm x 66 cm). You also need clear space around it to move freely during exercises. As a practical guide, plan for a room that offers:

• Length: Allow extra room beyond each end of the 99.5 in (2.53 m) frame for arm and leg extensions, the box, and the platform extender.
• Width: Leave room on both sides of the 26 in (66 cm) frame for lateral movements and to get on and off safely.
• Ceiling height: At least 97.5 in (2.48 m) for standing platform exercises (based on a 5’8" user, taller users need more), or 100.5 in (2.55 m) to store the reformer upright.

Who it fits (height)

Merrithew does not publish an official user height range for the SPX Max. As a practical guide:

• The 38.5 in (98 cm) carriage comfortably accommodates most adult users.
• Taller users, or those with a long torso who find full extension restrictive, can add a Reformer Extension Upgrade for +6 in (15 cm) of length (available separately).
• The Tall Box’s extra height helps accommodate a fuller range of exercises across different body types.

Assembly

• Minimal assembly is required.
• Built-in easy-roll wheels let you reposition it once set up.
• An Owner’s manual is available for setup, proper use, and maintenance.

Moving and storage

• This reformer does not fold, but easy-roll wheels on both ends make it simple to move and reposition.
• At 128 lbs it is lightweight for a commercial reformer, and it is stackable, stack multiple units to save floor space. Shoulder rests slide into frame brackets and reinforced pulleybars detach without disengaging the ropes.
• A rolling base is available separately for added convenience when moving stacked reformers.
• It can also be stored upright (requires roughly 100.5 in / 2.55 m of ceiling height).

Maintenance Requirements:

• Carriage wheels & rails: keep clean and free of debris to keep the carriage gliding smoothly.
• Upholstery: wipe down with a damp cloth. For deeper stains, use a small amount of neutral soap diluted in water.
• Springs: inspect periodically and replace worn springs to maintain proper tension and safety.

Warranty

• Limited lifetime warranty: aluminum rails, components of the frame and related welding, standard gearbar, and footbar mechanisms (excluding the rubber / Comfort Footbar)
• 90 days: upholstery
• 1 year: ropes, straps, spring clips, plastic pulley bar receptacle sleeves, comfort footbar, spring covers, and plastic spring holders
• 2 years: all other Reformer components

Shipping & Delivery

• Please note: Merrithew products are excluded from free US shipping (and from shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico).
• Large equipment ships via freight carrier, carefully packed in a cardboard or plywood box.
• Standard delivery is curbside, as close to your entrance or garage as possible. The driver does not unload inside. Plan to have two people available to bring it in.
• The carrier will call ahead to schedule your delivery. Missing your scheduled window may result in additional charges.

Before signing for delivery: inspect the outer box and note any visible damage on the waybill. Damage not noted at delivery cannot be claimed later. For damaged items, send photos to sales@pilatesmatters.com.

Returns & Cancellations

• Cancellations are accepted within 24 hours of ordering. After 24 hours we’ll do our best but cannot guarantee cancellation. Shipped orders cannot be cancelled or returned.
• This product is final sale. As with all Merrithew equipment (excluding accessories), this reformer is not eligible for returns. Please review your order carefully before purchasing.
